The most notable rulers of the Gupta dynasty were Chandragupta I, Samudragupta, and Chandragupta II, also known as Vikramaditya. The Gupta period produced scholars such as Kalidasa, Aryabhata, Varahamihira, and Vatsyayana. The Allahabad Pillar inscription, composed by Harishena, credits Samudragupta with extensive conquests.
