Jharkhand is set to get a first-of-its-kind State-run tribal research university of eastern India to facilitate research in the field of tribal culture, art and tradition.
India has one of the largest and diverse tribal populations in the world.
Most of the tribes are listed as Scheduled Tribes (STs). There are about 744 STs listed across 22 states in India. The tribal population in India according to the 2011 census is 104 million or 8.6% of the total population.
