The concept of an Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) was adopted at the 3rd United Nations Conference on the law of the sea in 1982. The Exclusive Economic Zone extends upto 200 miles from the shore and the coastal state has full jurisdiction over the exploration and exploitation of marine resources in its EEZ.
