Excerpt/ Sample:

The Hoysala Empire ruled over major part of what is the modern day Karnataka state. Hoysala dynasty ruled in India from tenth to fourteenth century. This era was remarkable for the development of art and architecture in South India.

The Hoysala Folklore
There is an interesting story behind the name of this Empire. It is said that a young boy named Sala was with his teacher when suddenly a tiger started approaching them to attack. The teacher handed Sala an iron rod and shouted “Poy Sala” (“strike Sala”). Sala took the iron rod and killed the tiger. This young boy later set up a vast kingdom and took “Hoysala” as his family name.
The Hoysala Emblem represents this folklore and it can be seen in almost all the temples built during the Hoysala Era.
