The Mughals were a branch of the Timurid dynasty of Turco-Mongol origin from Central Asia. Babur was the founder of the Mughal Empire in India.

Babur was born in 1483, he spent much of his youth fixated on trying to capture and hold Samarkand, the former capital of the Timurid empire. He occupied Kabul in 1504 and then turned his attention toward India. Babur emerged victorious in the Battle of Panipat in 1526, which marked the end of Lodi Dynasty and the beginning of the Mughal Empire in India.
