Why in NEWS?
As per the new draft policy of ISRO, Indian Space Research Organization plans to expand the reach of its regional satellite-based navigation system globally, and make it interoperable with other systems such as the GPS.
It is also known by its operational name NAVIC (Navigation with Indian Constellation).
The constellation consists of 7 active satellites (Total 8 – IRNSS 1A is a partial failure as atomic clocks failed). Three of the seven satellites in constellation are located in geostationary orbit (GEO) and four in inclined geosynchronous orbit (IGSO).
