Deccan plateau geology – IAS Synopsis

Excerpt/ Sample:

The Deccan Plateau has rocky terrain marked by boulders, with an average elevation of about 600 metres. The Satpura and Vindhyan ranges mark the northern boundary of the Deccan Plateau and the Ghats form its eastern and western boundaries.

The Deccan Plateau can be subdivided into two major geologic-physiographic regions: an igneous rock plateau with fertile black soil, and a gneiss peneplain with infertile red soil.
