Covaxin is India’s only indigenous Covid – 19 vaccine developed by Bharat Biotech company in collaboration with National Institute of Virology, of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR – NIV).
Covaxin is an inactivated vaccine as it is made by killing the disease causing microbe, in this case the novel coronavirus which causes COVID – 19. The killed or inactivated virus is not able to replicate but it still triggers an immune response.
